From 13 to 27 February 2021, Nice will become the world capital of fashion, with the 136th Nice Carnival on the theme “King of animals”. Come and admire the King and Queen and their subjects, and take part in the extravagant parades of floats, grosses têtes (giant puppet heads) and flowers.
Over two weeks, Nice Carnival, with its twin parades – the daytime and evening Corsi Carnavalesques and the Batailles de Fleurs (Flower “Battles”) – will offer up a magical, burlesque spectacle, portraying fashion in all its guises.
For the carefully staged Corsi Carnavalesques (Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sunday), themed floats will be joined by the giant puppet heads known as grosses têtes and performers from around the world, in a festive and egalitarian atmosphere, to revisit the history of fashion – making you laugh as well as reflect on the clothing industry and its hidden aspects. For while fashion may set trends and influence practices and behaviour, it also has an ethical role of responsibility to play.
On Wednesday and Saturday afternoons comes the other high point of Nice Carnival: the Batailles de Fleurs, consisting of themed floats decorated with locally sourced flowers (80% are produced in the region) and brought to life by performers wearing costumes designed specially for the occasion. A parade like no other, in which thousands of flowers will be distributed.
And remember, adults and children in full fancy dress get free admission to the Corsi parades!
Come and join in the party, from 13 to 27 February 2021, in Nice!
